CBAM calculator: Free CBAM cost calculation for imports according to EU specifications

With the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), the EU is introducing the world’s strictest CO₂ pricing system for imports. Companies must calculate and report CBAM costs for certain goods (e.g. steel, aluminium, cement, fertilizers, electricity, hydrogen) based on their emissions. Our CBAM calculator offers you a fast, transparent, free way to calculate CBAM costs for your products and supply chains – including default values & emissions data.

Our CBAM solution: CORA - your software for automated CBAM reporting & issue handling

CORA is the technological basis for managing CBAM processes securely, efficiently and scalably. The software supports companies in recording and processing emissions data in a structured manner and reporting it in EU format. CORA thus provides a reliable foundation for end-to-end CBAM compliance and automated reporting

01

Automated data collection & emissions imports

CORA handles the preparation, validation and import of your emissions data - regardless of whether it comes from supplier queries, your own systems or external sources. Different formats are processed consistently and merged into a structured database.

02

Clean emissions processing for EU-compliant reports

The software prepares all emissions data in such a way that it can be transferred directly into the official CBAM reporting formats. This reduces manual steps, minimizes errors and speeds up the entire reporting process.

03

Minimizes manual effort & compliance risks

CORA eliminates much of the manual work that would otherwise be done in spreadsheets, e-mail loops and distributed files. The software ensures that process steps remain transparent, reproducible and auditable - including documentation management.

04

Clear focus on data security, structure and efficiency

CORA was developed to manage CBAM-relevant information in a structured manner and provide it securely. The platform ensures that data flows consistently, integrations function stably and all relevant information remains traceable at all times.

Further advantages of our CBAM tool CORA

Our CBAM services: How we support you

CBAM presents companies with several challenges at once: missing or incomplete emissions data, time-consuming supplier queries, complex calculation specifications, quarterly reporting obligations and high risks in the event of errors. Many companies have to fundamentally realign their internal processes, data flows and compliance structures – and are therefore faced with additional burdens in already tightly scheduled organizations.

Our CBAM consulting addresses these challenges in a targeted manner, creates security and enables a smooth transition to the new EU regulatory framework.

CBAM Impact Analysis & Product Classification

We identify all CBAM-relevant products, materials, suppliers and batches and determine the extent to which your company is affected by CBAM. In this way, we create a clear factual basis for planning, budgeting and risk assessment.

  • Identification of product groups & articles subject to CBAM
  • Analysis of volume flows and import data
  • Initial cost estimate & risk forecast per material / batch
  • Derivation of a CBAM maturity level

Emissions data management & supplier communication

Many companies struggle with missing or difficult-to-access emissions data. We support you in obtaining, checking and validating your data – including the use of default values for missing data.

  • Structured data request for international suppliers
  • Support with emissions methodology & documentation
  • Validation of data quality
  • Use and supplementation with CBAM standard values

Structure of a CBAM Operating Model

CBAM requires stable, repeatable processes – from data collection to reporting. We develop the organizational structures, roles and processes that ensure your CBAM compliance in the long term.

  • Definition of responsibilities & reporting roles
  • Structure of process & data flows
  • Creation of checklists, templates & QA mechanisms
  • Preparation for audit & verification obligations

Price, budget & scenario strategy

CBAM influences prices, margins and purchasing conditions. We develop strategies that make costs calculable and facilitate negotiations.

  • Price logics & budget effects for purchasing & sales
  • Modeling of different volume scenarios
  • Support with supplier & customer negotiations

Reporting, compliance & audit preparation

Companies must submit quarterly CBAM reports – error-free, complete and in EU format. We accompany you through the entire reporting cycle all year round.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions about the CBAM calculator

CBAM currently applies to certain emission-intensive product groups such as steel, aluminium, cement, fertilizers, hydrogen and electricity. Within these groups, specific commodity codes (CN codes) are usually affected rather than entire categories. Our CBAM calculator helps you to allocate your articles correctly and to check whether a duty applies to individual products.

This is based on the emissions of the imported product – ideally genuine emissions data provided by the supplier. If this is missing, approved CBAM default values can be used. You also need import quantities, article information and, if applicable, production specifics. The CBAM cost calculator guides you step by step through all the details.

In this case, your company may temporarily use CBAM default values. These are specified by the EU and can be automatically imported into the computer. At the same time, a structured process for supplier communication is recommended in order to securely collect emissions-based data in the long term and reduce risks.

The calculated values are a realistic estimate of the expected CBAM levy based on current EU regulations, standard values or your original data. As CBAM certificate prices fluctuate, it is always a forecast – but precise enough for budgeting, purchasing, pricing and scenario planning.

Yes – the calculator is completely free and can be used without registration. You can calculate emissions, quantities, prices and scenarios immediately. Ideal for quick internal coordination, preliminary cost comparisons or supplier discussions.

If you do not have emission-specific data, the calculator uses official EU default values for the respective product group. These form a conservative basis for estimating CBAM costs – until more precise data is available. The calculator also shows you the difference between the default value approach and real supplier data.

The CBAM calculator is used for quick individual or scenario calculations. CORA, on the other hand, automates the entire process: data import, validation, quality check, reporting, audit capability and compliance. Companies use CORA when they not only need to calculate CBAM, but also manage, automate and document it in a structured manner on a permanent basis.

Much more time-consuming than many expect: emissions must be checked, documented, validated and reported in EU format for each imported item – including receipts, method descriptions and supplier data. Companies without a digital structure quickly spend dozens of hours per quarter. Tools such as CORA drastically reduce this effort.

Incorrect information can lead to fines, additional payments, audits, trade risks or delays in supply chains. Incomplete emissions data, incorrect product classification or inappropriate documentation are particularly risky. A clean operating model and structured data processes are therefore crucial.

Using a combined classification of commodity codes, product groups, import quantities and emissions data. Our CBAM calculator facilitates this for individual cases – our CBAM consultancy carries out a complete material and supplier analysis, including risk forecast, classification logic and maturity assessment.
