Product Development Process (PEP) Assessment: Faster Time to Market, Greater Transparency, and Higher Quality in Product Development
Time and budget overruns, rocky market launches, and unnecessary rework often occur when the PEP breaks down: phase handoffs don’t work, digital chains break at interfaces, and requirements change too late. At the same time, methods, organization, tools, and guidelines must work together seamlessly. This is exactly where our Product Development Process (PEP) Assessment comes in: We quickly provide transparency on the current status, distill the results into clear, actionable options, and develop an implementable action plan—tailored precisely to your products, locations, and strategic goals.
Here's what the Product Development Process (PEP) Assessment gets right to the point

- Shared Direction: A Clear Framework for Your PEP—From Prioritized Use Cases to an End-to-End View
- Relevant areas of focus: Emphasis on TTM, quality, variant management, and production readiness rather than a collection of methods
- Investment Clarity: Comparable Measures with Benefits, Costs, and Risk Assessments
- Planning for Scalability: An Approach That Takes Governance, Resources, and Milestones into Account
Services and Process of the PEP Assessment
Our PEP Assessment is tailored to your strategic goals, current situation, and other needs. Each module concludes with tangible results that can be incorporated into decision-making and planning.

FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions About the PEP Assessment
A current PEP chart (phases/gates), available KPIs (e.g., lead times, First-Time-Right), an overview of the tools (e.g., PLM/ERP/CAx/ALM), and points of contact from R&D, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and IT/OT. We’ll provide a checklist in advance.
Measures are always linked to objectives such as time-to-market, quality, costs, and flexibility in product variants, and are assessed in terms of effort, benefit, and risk—ensuring that decisions are well-founded.
Both. Many companies start with targeted levers such as requirements management, gate quality, development processes, or the digital thread. Others view the entire PEP as an end-to-end system to resolve structural bottlenecks. The assessment can be conducted in a modular fashion and easily expanded to include additional areas.
Typically two to five weeks—depending on the size, complexity, and number of locations. Our approach is deliberately lean and focused: interviews, analysis, validation, and the development of measures all run in parallel. In doing so, we take care to minimize the burden on business units while still generating a complete picture of the end-to-end PEP.
We actively facilitate the process, ensure transparency regarding added value, and reduce methodological complexity. We implement only those methods that deliver relevant value—no overcomplication. Co-creation with business units fosters acceptance. Participation is a central component of the assessment, ensuring that changes are supported.
Typically, the results are immediate: bottlenecks, duplicate work, and unclear responsibilities become apparent, priorities become clearer, and quick wins can be implemented right away. Larger structural effects—such as improved time-to-market performance, higher production readiness, or greater variant transparency—usually follow within a few quarters, depending on the complexity and scale of the project.
Upon request, we provide support for quick wins, method standardization, tool and interface projects, KPI dashboards, as well as change management and training initiatives—all the way through to stable operation.
