Digital engineering projects at Ventum Consulting

Turnaround project for product-critical system component (HW+SW)

Term: 2 years
Team size: 3 consultants

In the hardware selection and development process for an automotive customer, the requirements for software development in the context of ISO 26262 and systems engineering were not sufficiently taken into account. This threatened to delay the SOP of a new vehicle model for the customer – resulting in delay costs running into millions. In addition to setting up and implementing a V&V strategy, test management and traceability analysis, the digital engineering team in the Rescue project achieved road approval by consolidating and standardizing test results and safety analyses.

Results:

  • Remaining term reduced by 50
  • Achievement of road clearance and thus also SOP
  • 10 million euros in costs averted due to delays

Architecture consulting for the digitalization of the product development process

Term: 2 years
Team size: 2-3 consultants

There is no clear vision and no structured way to implement the digitalization or virtualization of a commercial vehicle manufacturer’s vehicle development process. The project team has developed cross-divisional design processes from the early phase to the series production phase. The data includes both geometric and functional development data. The aim of the project was to create a common understanding of the solution modules to be implemented, the data responsibilities and the future technical basis.

Results:

  • Throughput time in PEP reduced by 30
  • Elaborated architectural guidelines for geometric and functional development
  • 500 million euro business cases identified

Cross-brand business processes and IT solutions

Term: 3 years
Team size: 10 consultants

Cross-brand product development by four commercial vehicle manufacturers requires harmonized business processes and IT solutions for secure, traceable and efficient data exchange. The main objective is to establish common processes, methods and tools. As a requirement and area of tension at the same time, the brand-specific structures, processes and systems must be taken into account as well as the various collaboration models between the brands, the holding company and its partners. The team provides support in content and methodological requirements management as well as in agile IT product development. During the course of the project, the business architecture is also defined with a focus on roles, processes and information flows, business objects and attributes as well as services and functions.

Results:

  • 50 million euro savings case with 4 brands involved
  • Synchronized processes along the PEP in PI and Release Planning, Requirements Management (Mechanics & E/E), CAD-DX, Part Master Data, BoM / Structure Codes & Rules, Technical Change Management (Mechanics & E/E), Embedded SW Development as well as SW Issue Management, Simulation and Test Management

AI-based optimization of machine loading through real-time production data

Term: <1 year
Team size: 2 consultants

Potential bottlenecks on two parallel production lines of a commercial vehicle manufacturer are to be analysed and minimized. The production volume is to be increased through better utilization of the production lines by linking real-time production data and generating real-time decision aids from it. This process is supported by mathematical optimization and AI-based methods. Live data is connected via edge computing and cloud technology.

Results:
